About the Hotel
Located in the area known as "El Centro" or the downtown, the Panamericano Buenos Aires Hotel & Resort is at the hub of the city with some of the most spectacular attractions at your doorstep like the landmark Obelisk, the magnificent Colon Theatre, the new, upscale shopping center, Gallerias Pacifico on Florida Street and plenty of nightlife, clubs, theater and cinemas, great restaurants and some quiet, quaint plazas with fountains and statues.
The Local Area
Obelisk
This landmark edifice towers over the city at 221 ½ feet and was built in 1936 on the site where the nation's first flag was raised. Surrounded by a large plaza, there's always something going on like an open-air concert or a soccer match.
Colon Theater
Its opulence, magnitude and magnificent acoustics rival La Scala in Milan for greatest opera houses in the world. This is truly a site to see and experience. The seven-tier theater has an enormous chandelier with 700 lights to illuminate the 2,490 audience members. Inaugurated in 1908 with Verdi's Aida, the stage has seen the likes of Maria Callas, Luciano Pavarotti, Arturo Toscanini and many other music legends.
Puerto Madero
A newly revived part of town that has a riverside promenade with the city on one side and the yacht club on the other. Once a row of red brick warehouses and grain mill, this area is home to some of the chic and trendy shops, restaurants, clubs, galleries, hotels and apartments. It's known as the place to take an evening stroll.
Palacio San Martin
This ornate building was built in 1909 in a French Neoclassical style for one of the city's wealthiest families. Since 1936 it has house the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It's indicative of the turn of the century European opulence that made its claim on Buenos Aires.
Galerias Pacifico
Former headquarters for the Buenos Aires-Pacific Railway, this upscale shopping center has become a cultural center as well with the Centro Cultural Borges that showcases young talent, and a beautiful façade, sky lighted dome and vibrant murals.
Biblioteca Nacional
In the nearby Recoleta district you'll find the famous national library that was once the home of the famous writer, Jorge Luis Borges who served as its director. The massive structure took three decades to complete and houses a labyrinth of rooms and books that inspired some of his greatest works like El Aleph and The Book of Sand.
