Overview of this paper
Section one
Levels theory reflects the holonic ordering of the real world and of 1
the abstract conceptual world of humans. This holonic pattern can
be observed in the historic developmental of strategic thinking.
Furthermore, the rules of Holon’s seem applicable to strategy.
( and also values, levels of moral development--- in a later paper)
Section two
Functional evolution/holonic evolution can be viewed through a
levels perspective. Using the ‘7 S model’ exposes the
organizational changes required as one moves through levels.
There are considerable gains to be achieved through levels
shifting.
Section three
The need for personal self-awareness and levels congruency
makes shifting an organization extremely difficult especially when
shifting to “new territory”. The difficulty is highlighted by reviewing
the implications inherent in the before and after structures of just
one function let alone two or three.
(This is made even more difficult if a morals levels shift is also required
---- to be described in a later paper)
