Edward Waitzer

Edward Waitzer has served as Chair of Stikeman Elliott LLP since 1999. His practice focuses on corporate finance, acquisition, and restructuring transactions, as well as advising in respect of various public policy and governance matters. His clients include a number of major U.S. and Canadian investment banks as well as corporations seeking to raise capital, restructure, or make acquisitions. He has also been very active on accounting and corporate governance issues and leads our Corporate Governance Group. He is a member of the firm's Executive Committee and Partnership Board.
Mr. Waitzer chaired the Strategy Working Party, which restructured the International Accounting Standards Board. He has served as a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants' Task Force on Standard Setting, as a public director of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and as a member of the Independent Review Panel on the Comptrollership Function in Canada. He has served as a director of numerous corporations and community organizations and has written and spoken extensively on a wide range of policy issues. He serves as contributing editor or on the advisory boards of various publications, including Corporate Ethics Monitor, Corporate Governance Review, Financial Regulator, International Securities Regulation Report, The Philanthropist and the Valuation Law Review.
Mr. Waitzer was Vice President of the Toronto Stock Exchange before joining the firm. He practised with Stikeman Elliott LLP from 1981 to 1993, including several years as head of our New York office. He chaired the Technical Committee of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) from 1994 to 1996 after serving as Vice Chair of its Executive Committee in 1993. Mr. Waitzer rejoined the firm after serving as Chair of the Ontario Securities Commission from 1993 to 1996. During 2003-2004 he lived in Santiago and was special advisor to the Chilean Superintendent of Insurance and Securities.
